THE JOINT SNAKE.
X
Fred C. Finney, who is visiting his sister here, says an old hermit living near the Oklahoma state line has a captive joint snake which makes as good a watchdog as any four-legged pup.
A joint snake, according to Finney; is hard to capture and harder to keep around the house. The old hermit accomplished it by accidentally chopping into the snake while cutting cordwood, severing the last joint from the rest of the snake.
A joint snake can became reattached to any cut off joints by lying perfectly still for several days. This was prevented by the hermit’s placing the severed joint in a bucket and hanging it on a tree.
Now the snake spends most of its time near the tree trying to devise ways and means of getting part of itself out of the bucket or the rest of itself into it long enough to grow onto the missing joint.
